SPIRE
(AU)
Hymn III
— Textural black metal slowed down to
moody and reflective. The vocalist adds multiple dimensions with
low growls, high shrieks, chanting and an overall thundering
performance.

SENYAWA
(Indonesia)
Istana
— Written-up by the NYT, Senyawa is
an incredible part of the huge Indonesian experimental scene with a
wild ride on homemade instrumentation. They offered graphics and
audio files out to whoever wanted it, asking different labels to
create mixes to appeal to their local region. 44 labels took them
up on it. This one is from a British label.

SUFFERING HOUR
(MN)
Obscuration
— Another explosive black metal band
playing with death muscularity and lower-paced meditative
atmospheric with a seething, gravelly vocalist.
21:39-23:38
GRAVESEND
(NYC)
Ashen Piles Of The
Incinerated
— Intensity ramps up through this
album, gritty death, atmospheric grind and punk experimenting with
density, aggression and mood.
24:21-29:23
HEAVE BLOOD AND DIE
(Norway)
Post People
— The band name doesn’t necessarily
match the chill post-punk 70’s influenced krautrock political band.
Fantastic album.
29:39-32:26
SOCIOCLAST (San
Jose)
Concrete and Steel
— Monstrous groove grind with
blistering death and dread.
32:47-37:18
DEAD EXALTATION
(India)
The Transformation
— Indian technicality puts this away
with a blast of death and prog and satisfying riffs.
37:36-45:15
LIQUIFY
(WA)
Quest for Eternity
— Jamming psychedelic brain candy
that lets the brain just breathe. Lovely.
46:04-50:12
DEIQUISITOR
(Denmark)
Below the frozen Tundra
— Demonic vocals claws you while
burying you alive with a raw bleak death.
50:30-55:26
SARIN
(CAN)
Reckoner
— Meditative stoner post-metal with a
focus on unique instrumentals; another decompressive
album.
55:45-END
MOTORAMA
(Russia)
Up
— Sweet, bubbly new wave from one of
my faves in this genre.
